Old Fashion Rain Barrel

The old fashion rain barrel was usually placed under the roof gutters of a lot of homes. It was used to collect the rain water so that it could then be recycled at a future time. This water was often used for watering gardens, keeping lawns from drying out and even for washing clothes. Just think of the times that we complain that is always raining, raining and raining. The next month we are complaining of no rain. Doesn’t it seem to make sense to simply collect the excess rain in a barrel so that it can be reused when everything is parched? Dried up flower beds and brown lawns are not a pretty sight.

We read about the effect of droughts across various parts of the country. Some communities have even tried to ration water; no grass watering, no car washing etc.

Many vegetable gardens are underdeveloped because of a lack of water. Fields of corn, wheat and hay are definitely shrinking just because of insufficient rain during the growing season. Yet, at the same time, severe storms produce an abundance of rain water in such a short period of time that most of it simply cannot be absorbed into the ground; it has no choice but to overloads the storm sewers.

We must all realize that conservation of fresh water is a must. Some independent testing that has been done that seem to suggest that animals

thrive on rainwater. They say that clothes washed in rain water will be cleaner and softer. Tomato, pepper, cucumber plants will all prosper when they are watered with rainwater. And, your water and sewage bill will decrease when you add recycled rainwater to your daily water usage.

So why not give it a try? Our parents and grandparents did a lot of thing out of necessity. They knew the importance of conservation. Maybe we should all begin to follow in their footsteps.

How to Cut Down a Tree

While trees are important parts of the environment and chopping them down wholesale is bad, there are some situations that just necessitate cutting them down. A tree that had been planted in the wrong spot could end up as an unwanted obstruction, or one that had been diseased may need to be brought down. One may opt to hire an expert to do the work, or to save money, they may decide to do it themselves. In the case of the latter, one should know how to cut down a tree safely and efficiently.

Tree

Tree

As the phrase goes, safety comes first. If one wants to know how to cut down a tree, it is important to consider that this is an arduous and potentially hazardous task. So leather work gloves and safety goggles are necessary for proper protection. As for the equipment needed for the job, a chainsaw and a pruning saw would do just fine. Of course, one should also bring an orchard ladder and some rope.

The first step, literally speaking, is to use the orchard ladder to climb up to the topmost section of the tree. One must be sure to tie the rope between the rungs of the ladder and the supporting leg for stability. Once at the treetop, the branches are to be sawed off one by one. It would be much safer and more efficient to cut the bigger branches into smaller pieces as these would be easier to handle than larger chunks of wood.

Moving on to the other parts of the tree, one should be sure to place the ladder in a position that is suitable and safe for cutting. The minor branches are then removed one at a time. Once the tree is at a low enough height, one can make do with an ordinary ladder for the rest of the job. The trunk is then to be cut down into smaller easy to handle pieces for convenient disposal.

Having a wood chipper on hand would make the task of tree-chopping much easier, but if such is not available, one would have to be patient cutting one piece of the tree at a time. Once one knows how to cut down a tree, this shouldn’t be too difficult. Much more difficult, though, would be disposing of the tree stump. One would need to have a stump remover, which is a special machine designed for the purpose. The trunk, the branches and the leaves are then left to dry for two days. Afterwards, one may dispose of them by burning them outside, or if one has a fireplace, better use can be made of them as firewood to heat up the house.

really is a job best left to professionals, especially in the case of really high, larger trees. But if the tree in question is deemed manageable and if one is confident that they can easily grasp how to cut down a tree, one should then remember the materials needed for the task. Sharp saws, a sturdy ladder and proper safety gear are of course a given. But one should never forget two other simple but necessary tools for the task: caution and patience.

Dangers of Water Damage

Water damage restoration has become so advanced nowadays. There are water damage restoration companies that use high tech instruments called thermal cameras to detect moisture. It’s time to dehumidify!

Water is ubiquitous. It is vital for any life form’s survival. However, water at times become unwanted and could be a great adversary too! Clearly, there is almost nothing you can do when nature rampages; hurricanes result to infuriating floods, and irksome roof and fissure leaks; water accumulates after heavy snow. And if you are becoming very unlucky, your water pipelines burst. Evidently, it becomes a predicament when water, the universal solvent, comes to you in a very unlikely time and manner. And you thought you knew better of the damage it can cause?

Water damage typically includes growth of molds in surfaces of the house, deformation and splitting of wood furniture, rusting of fixtures, staining of finishes and lifting of veneers. It will cost you a lot to recover, not to mention the time that will be wasted. If money is not the matter with you, how about the more serious damage it can give you?

It is more likely that you will have health problem with molds around. It can produce allergens that can trigger allergy or even asthma in people allergic to mold. And what could be more bitter than death by electrocution after some open wiring of an appliance was exposed to water? That is why it should be clear to us that water at home should only be found in the toilet, water sink, refrigerator and swimming pool. If this is not the case, then you will be needing help from experts and professionals; undergo water damage restoration.

Appropriate water damage restoration is of the essence. There is more to water damage restoration than extracting it from the carpets. Stopping the growth of molds is the main concern. If treated hastily, you can minimize the damage.

Cable Harnesses

A cable harness can also be known as a cable assembly, wire harness, wiring loom or a wiring assembly, and is best described as a string of wires or cables that are capable of transmitting informational signals or operating currents. These wires in the cable harness are then bound together with electrical tape, cable ties, conduit or clamps. Very commonly used in motor cars and construction machinery, cable harnesses provide many advantages compared to loose cables or wires. Aircraft for example can contain many kilometers of wires/cables when extended, and by binding them together into a cable harness, they can improve safety and be made more secure. Other advantages are, wires in cable harnesses are less likely to short and installation is made easier. Cable harnesses are generally made and designed for electrical purposes, and a diagram is used for the assembly and preparation. Using a special machine, the wires are first cut to length. The ends of the wires are then stripped which exposes the metal wires or the core, and these stripped down ends are then fitted with any connectors or terminals that may be required. The cables are then brought together by assembling and clamping them on a workbench, which has been designed specifically for this purpose. They may also be assembled on a pin-board or assembly board, according to the specific design of the cable harness. After applying any required protective sleeves or conduit, the harness can be fitted directly into the required application or shipped. Even though manufacturing processes throughout many industries are automated, cable harness assembly continues to be manufactured by hand, and this is partly due to the numerous processes involved, which are: • Inserting one sleeve into another • Crimping terminals onto wires • Routing wires through sleeves • Taping with fabric tape • Fastening strands with tape These types of individual processes would be very difficult to automate, but they can be learned quite quickly, even without qualifications. Pre- production can be automated, and some of these processes may include: • Crimping terminals onto one or both sides of the wire • Twisting wires • Soldering wire ends • Cutting individual wires The finished cable harness may be tested by using a test board. Data is programmed into the test board and the harnesses may be tested in multiple numbers or individually.
